Sakura Dayori-Cherry Blossom Letters

Sakura Dayori (Cherry Blossom Letter)

In spring

On rainy days

A small figure stood

In front of the train station

You were waiting for me

With a pink umbrella

I still remember it

Blooming in the rain like a cherry blossom

Mother

In this foreign land I live

Cherry blossoms are now in season

But people don't seem to care

passing hastily by the trees

Mother I am standing alone

and reading

As if they were letters from home

The scentless petals one by one

Ever since I can remember

I was stubborn and made you worry so

I thought I was living by myself

I wanted to prove I could be on my own

What a selfish child I have been, but...

I have learned little by little

how to trust changing seasons

I still have many whys

Then I hear your voice saying,

"It is all right, my dear, just be happy, be safe."

In this foreign land

Where my soul will be buried someday

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom

The spring light pours down on me gently

As if to heal the weary traveler's heart

Mother

I am standing alone

and reading

As if they were letters from you

Cherry blossom petals one by one

one by one...

Furudokei - The Old Clock

In the deep snow
Peeks a spring crocus in the color of dawn
Today will be a lucky day

In a foggy morning, a thrush visits my window
She flew off leaving the winter tangerine behind
Tomorrow will be a fine day

When I am a little bit sad
I dream the usual dream
Of the southern land
Where the warm breezes blow
Of the forest
Where a blue bird stops on my shoulder

The handkerchief you’ve left after our last goodbye
I shall wash it in a bamboo basin
Will it dry in the misty rain?

The needle spins for the thousandth time
But I want to listen to the song again
All alone tonight

What is happiness?
If only anybody knew
No one would ever cry
“Sleep, sleep,”
The old clock chimes

Idainaru Kimi e - To The Great You

The spring is so fragrant and bright

It is pregnant with hope

White magnolias and larks on the hills

are singing songs of life

The summer breeze blows warm

and the sky is blue

Those are not ordinary things

I know you must be able to understand

Because you suffered so much

but never stopped searching

It must have been frightening to stay honest

You must have shaken with fear

But here it is, The Great You

who has been trying and still trying

to overcome weakness within

Even if you can't walk straight

even though you may not leave

a footprint in our time

I beg you please

smile for me, show me

the smile of the Crowned One!

In the end of autumn

birds spread their wings and take off

Over the golden clouds

they fly back home

leaving traces of the life fully lived

across the southern sky

The coldness of winters

freezing snowstorms

embrace them all and live on!

I know you can

because you had the courage to be hurt

in return for opening your heart

to love

It must have been difficult wanting happiness

You must have fallen at times

But here it is, The Great You

who keeps trudging forward

the labyrinth of the confusing "self"

Even if you can't live upright

even though your voice may not echo

in the history

I beg you please

smile fo me, show me

The smile of The Crowned One!

Even if you can't walk straight

even though you may not leave

a footprint in our time

I beg you please

smile for me, show me

The smile of The Crowned One!

Mikazuki to Neko - The Crescent Moon and the Kitty Cat

Orange Bitter

24 hours ago I was on the plane

Arriving in San Francisco from Narita Airport

Where powdery snow was floating in the air

The plane shakes hard while it ascends toward the clouds

I keep telling myself it won’t be long

I cover my ears to protect them from the deafening sound of the jet

All the while

I am thinking of you

Did it really happen between us?

I remember the coolness of the sheets and our hot breaths

We couldn’t stop the fraying of time

Cold fingers and wet hair

The truth in our lies tasted just as good

as the orange bitter cocktail

I am staring at the ocean from the Golden Gate Bridge

The waves beyond the dark sea are so violent

I lose consciousness for just a second

The thought that no one knows or cares for me here,

Even if I hurl myself over the bridge right now,

Makes me feel strangely peaceful

Darling, if I became one of the stars above

How many drops of tears would you shed for me?

We were too jaded to cry out loud

For the love fading away

We did not have much faith in us to begin with

To be able to accuse one another

The truth in our lies was as sweet

as the orange bitter cocktail

From the top floor window of my hotel

I can see bustling holiday shoppers

Should I try to blend with them

with a smile on my face?

Even buy myself  a teardrop-shaped jewel, maybe then,

The truth in our lies may look

As beautiful as the orange bitter cocktail

The crescent moon and the kittty cat

Little baby kitty cat

Where are you from, pretty one?

The crescent moon and the kitty cat

Little baby kitten cat

Have you been lost?

Which way is your home?

Somehow I feel very sad and sentimental

The silver tail is swinging

Under the roof of the night sky

The crescent moon and the kitty cat

Little baby kitty cat

Are you hungry?

Isn't it cold today?

The crescent moon and the kitty cat

Little baby kitty cat

No matter how hard you stare

The pie in the sky won't fall down

Somehow I feel very lonely and sentimental

The silver tail is swinging

Under the roof of the night sky

The crescent moon and the kitty cat

Prancing happily

Fluffy cloud, wrap her up

So she will stay warm

The crescent moon and the kitty cat

Little baby kitty cat

It will be morning soon

Hope you can find your way home....
